01 Our story

The valley is changing

For generations, the Suguta Valley was known as the valley of insecurity — a hard land of scanty vegetation where settled life was difficult. Today that story is changing. Through community advocacy and climate resilience work led by the people of the valley themselves, water is reaching more households and acacia trees bloom green across the rift.

The community is not waiting to be rescued. The community is leading — and the valley is answering.
How SUREWA began

02 What we do

Five programmes, one valley

01

Water

Advocacy for, and delivery and improvement of, reliable water supply across the Suguta Valley.

02

Climate Change & Resilience

Restoration of the valley's vegetation and acacia cover, and community-led response to a changing climate.

03

Food Security

Helping valley households put reliable food on the table in a hard climate.

04

Education for All

Advancing every child's — and every adult's — right to learn in the Suguta Valley.

05

Community Advocacy & Civic Engagement

Barazas, civic forums and engagement with county government — the method behind every programme.

04 Where we work

The Suguta Valley, northern Rift

One of Kenya's hardest landscapes — a dry rift corridor between Lake Turkana and Lake Baringo, where SUREWA's member communities live and lead.

  • Community-based and community-led since 2019
  • Serving communities across Samburu, Turkana and Baringo
  • An organised, accountable voice for the valley's communities

05 Work with us

The valley has a plan. Bring what you have.

NGOs, county government, development partners, companies and individuals — partnership starts with a conversation. The community sets the agenda; partners help deliver it.
